How content is written and reviewed
Medical pages are drafted from current clinical practice guidelines and primary research — including publications from SAGES, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Drafts may be prepared with the help of writing tools, including AI-based tools. Every medical page is reviewed by Dr. Speer before it is published, and each page shows:
- Its sources, linked at the end of the page
- The date Dr. Speer reviewed it
- The date it was last updated
Where the evidence is uncertain or experts disagree, pages aim to say so. If you notice something that seems out of date or unclear, please let the clinic know.
Not medical advice
This site offers general information. It can’t take into account your history, test results, or other conditions, and reading it doesn’t create a doctor–patient relationship. In an emergency, call 911. For questions about your own care, contact your clinicians. If you’re an established patient, use Intermountain’s patient portal for non-urgent messages.
Privacy
- This site does not use advertising cookies, social-media tracking pixels, or third-party analytics.
- It does not have forms, chat, or uploads, and it does not collect health information. Please don’t send personal health information by email or social media.
- Appointment scheduling and the patient portal are provided by Intermountain Health on its own websites, under its own privacy policies.
- The hosting provider may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and reliability.
Accessibility
The site is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA: readable text sizes and contrast, full keyboard navigation, descriptive headings and links, and layouts that work on phones and with screen readers. Motion is kept minimal and is turned off for anyone who has asked their device to reduce motion. If anything on the site is difficult to use, please call the clinic and we’ll help you get the information in another way.
